Why Was Kelowna Established
The land was first registered as Kelowna in 1892. The name Kelowna was chosen because it was the native name for "Grizzly Bear". In 1904 it was realized how much potential the land had. The land grew tropical fruit, a hospital opened on the land, the first telephone was installed, and the first Kelowna newspaper started. In 1905 Kelowna was incorporated into a city. The first mayor was Henry (Harry) William Raymer in the year 1905.

Kelowna still has a large tree fruit industry. But know are moving into things like the tech industry which has been a change. Kelowna also used to have a tobacco industry but that has not continued. Kelowna's population has largely increased over time. In 1905 when the city was established, the population was at 600 people. Now the population of Kelowna is 179, 840. The city is now much more urbanized.

Kelowna has a large connection to Okanagan. Kelowna is on the Okanagan lake and is in the Okanagan valley. Kelowna is the head office of the Regional District of Central Okanagan.
